“THE LORD’S PRAYER”
Matthew 6: 9-13
Paraphrase by Gary L. Clendenon © 2006
“Universal Father, and yet … my own Divine Daddy,
I acknowledge you as Holy God of everything, including my life. I surrender this life—mind, body, and spirit—to You asking that through your Holy Spirit, You will be King of my life—my thoughts, actions, and feelings—so that in every situation that I encounter, or am concerned about, Your will will be done.
I remind myself of Your promise to supply all of my needs (1), and trusting that You know what’s best for me (2), I claim that promise for today.
As a sinful human, I ask for and accept Your forgiveness of my selfish acts. Help me to be as forgiving of others as You always are to me.
Remind me of Your Way when I am tempted to stray. And when my back’s against the wall, help me to remember: with You, there’s always a way out! (3)
For though, in this world, I feel like a losing warrior (4); in reality, I am a beloved child of Your Kingdom—the all-powerful, mostly-invisible kingdom, and You, GOD, have the final Word—forever.
Through Jesus’ gift, make it so!”
Live freely now, for God is in Control! (5)
